Honda Monkey has been around since 1961 but didn’t truly gain in popularity until the 70’s. This unique moped has seen tremendous development over the years and remains popular today. The Honda Monkey was originally developed to serve as a ride in an amusement park in Tokyo and soon after became popular outside of the park. A new ‘roadworthy’ version was developed, which is still popular today.

From theme park to moped of choice

The Honda Monkey derives its name from the way people position themselves. When people sit down on the moped it kind of makes them look like a monkey. Its compact design makes them lithe and agile. This is one of the reasons it remains among Honda’s most popular four stroke mopeds.

• In 2018 Honda introduced a new 125cc version of the Monkey
• In 2022 Honda introduced an even newer version. Complete with a 125cc air-cooled engine, 6.9kW power and 5 gears.
• The Z-series contains several variations on the same model. Which include the Z50A Minitrail in the US, Z50M with 5” wheels, Z50J, Z50R off-road, and the Gorilla.
