Youth is the future, even when it comes to the restoration of the Honda Four-Stroke Mopeds.

History.

Our (the slightly more advanced men and women) heart is always going to beat a little faster when we see another beautiful piece of youth sentiment. The boys of old, who on their moped (of course without a helmet) cut hard to their girlfriend. With both a (showpiece) piece on the back and under his ass making the “glitz”, we all remember. Just drive around and show how well you did anyway. Both a moped and a “chick” that everyone is jealous of (in your experience at least). And of course you were a certain type because the Nozems (Puch), the Vetkuiven (Kreidler and Zundapp) and the Kakkers (Honda) were then the names that were inextricably linked to these brands. Kjell van Oostrum ( Kjell@Viertaktschuur.nl ) the owner of the Four-Stroke Barn ( WWW.Viertaktschuur.nl ) is only 27 years old and is certainly not a “cockroach”. He is someone with a huge love for the Honda Oldtimers and spends almost all his free time on this in addition to his work.

The HONDA DAY 2014….

If you have only been on the Honda day, you will also have experienced that riding and tinkering with mopeds is certainly not only something for the elderly who apparently long very much for their youth. It’s like new life is emerging in the moped world. On the Honda day, which was organized by the HVN (Honda 4takt mopeds Association Netherlands (WWW.hondavereniging.nl), visitors who were already 16 years old were already 16 years old. These men and women came to the old stuff that they once rode and now often ride again. But of course there were also visitors who are almost 16 years old and came to join a beautiful Honda SS50, Honda CD50 or Honda C50 that he or she will soon ride.

The challenge……

Not only on the Honda day 2014, young and slightly less young each other, but also in the Four-Stroke Barn of Kjell(WWW.Viertaktschuur.nl),this is the order of the (zater) day. And one of the welcome visitors to the Four-Stroke Barn is Hans Broeksma. Hans has passed 16 for a while but he works daily with boys and girls who are (almost) 16 years old. As a workmaster of the Trivium college in Amersfoort, Hans is working daily to transfer the knowledge and experience present to him to his students. This, of course, with the intention of preparing them for a nice job that suits the developed skills as much as possible.

The problem ……..

About 1 1/2 years ago Hans and Kjell developed the plan to give a boost to sharing knowledge and experience together (Young, slightly less young and a little less Young). Hans has the knowledge and experience to restore a moped and he has many students who really want to take over his knowledge. It is of course very nice to tell how to restore a moped but the best lesson is to do “it”. But these kinds of initiatives are very difficult to get off the ground because the most important thing, to give substance to the intention, is missing. A restoration project costs money and the costs for the parts, in order to finish the restoration further, will of course be added. And, as we all know, money has almost no school because the available budgets are getting less and less.

The solution……….

The solution arose during a nice cup of coffee at Kjell in the barn because Kjell has permanently about 80 Honda mopeds and thousands of parts. Hans said that he is the workmaster of children who can learn a little less easily. The Trivium college is a practical school where he and his colleagues try to stimulate the students to develop further through fun lessons. This helps the children to discover which direction they can or want to go. Basic things like getting on time, appropriate clothing for a profession, completing a job completely, accuracy, dealing with each other gets a lot of attention. Which is designed as much as possible around a fun project. Hans had restored his own moped together with his students and had discovered that this was a very nice project in which all the basic issues were reviewed. The photos that Hans showed here made Kjell enthusiastic. Young children who can be helped in this way in their further development, a super enthusiastic workmaster made Kjell decide to “sponsor” the restoration of a moped.

The result …………

Kjell has made both the restoration project and all the necessary parts available and it has resulted in a super beautiful moped that not only the students but also the teacher and Kjell enjoy very much. The first project is finished and can be described as very successful. It will not surprise you that when Hans was in the barn recently to tell you that the Honda C50 was almost finished and that the students thoroughly enjoyed being able to participate in the restoration, he left the barn with the next project. Hans’s new challenge with his students is the restoration of a Honda DAX. Hans will visit again often for parts and we look forward to the result again.
