Honda cub C100, do you know where those 60 million copies are?

At the end of April, global production of the Honda Cub motorcycle reached the milestone of 60 million units. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in August 2008, the Cub is loved in more than 160 countries worldwide as a motorcycle for both everyday and commercial use.

Fourstrokebarn C100 Super Cub

When the Honda Cub C100 entered the Japanese market in August 1958, almost all motorcycles were still equipped with a two-stroke engine. Completely against the current, Honda equipped the Super Cub with an innovative and powerful 50 cm3 four-stroke engine. This engine excelled in economy and durability. The Super Cub C100 also stood out for its creative and unique design features. The so-called backbone frame with low entry, which facilitates getting on and off, is an example of this. Pairing was no longer necessary thanks to the automatic centrifugal coupling. The knee shield protected the driver from mud splashes and wind.

Since the introduction of the first generation, the basic concept has remained virtually unchanged. The unique design is even reflected in new models, such as the Honda Wave/Innova 125i.

Local production

The export of the Super Cub began in 1959, first to the United States. Two years later, the first foreign production facility was set up in Taiwan. Since then, the Honda Cub has also been produced in many other locations, currently in fifteen countries. Local production is fully in line with Honda’s long-term policy of building products close to the customer. For all markets outside of Japan, the Honda Cub series has been adapted over the years to the specific needs of the customers in each country. In Japan, the Super Cub has been equipped with an electronically controlled fuel injection system since 2007. At the end of April, global production of the Honda Cub motorcycle reached the milestone of 60 million units. Celebrating its 50th anniversary in August, the Cub is loved in more than 160 countries worldwide as a motorcycle for both everyday and commercial use.
