On holiday by moped

Thousands of kilometres on the Honda 4-stroke

The Fourstrokebarn also makes the slightly longer moped rides possible. Not so long ago, two new customers came to the Fourstrokebarn in Maarssen.  Maya and Caspar had conceived the plan to ride a moped together and because they didn’t want any problems on the road, they decided to make the ride on 2 Honda Oldtimer mopeds.  Caspar chose the Honda   SS50 and Maya fell for a Honda C50.  So if you could earlier in the story of Gerrit, “Six thousand hours in the Seat” read bridging a distance on a Honda classic car is no problem at all, but the challenge that Caspar and Maya wanted to take on was not thousands of hours in the seat but thousands of kilometers.

An ss50 and a c50

This kind of plan remains a beautiful and fun dream for many people, not for Caspar and Maya because they have added the deed to the word.  Caspar already had his SS50 and Maya chose a nice Honda C50 at the Four-Stroke Barn. Together with Caspar and with the support of Kjell van de Viertaktschuur, both mopeds  have been brought into top condition.  Now that everything was ready for the big trip – because Caspar and Maya had decided to choose Italy as their final destination, another risk had to be solved.  Of course, problems could arise along the way, these oldtimers are of course 30 years old, and coming to parts along the way is of course not doable.

This turned out to be the smallest problem of the whole operation because Kjell pledged that if they come up with a problem it will send the necessary parts to Caspar and Maya by express wherever they were at the time.  A great reassurance and nothing stood in the way of the beautiful challenge anymore.

Travelogue!

This week caspar and Maya gave us a short travelogue and it’s all going well. In the meantime they have covered 1800 kilometers and they are in the south of France we continue to follow them. and are confident that those four will be all right.

“The mopeds are still working! Eighteen hundred kilometers away, we thought it would be good to hear from us. Two days ago started the first two hundred km to Zeeland. A day rested and last things crackled at Sjaak and Ria. Then with good weather on to Antwerp to Dith and Fred. After a delicious supper, chill out with the four of us. Then the rain started…

Then drove for a week in the rain, but on the way picked up by the good (moped) cares of Marie-Christine and Toni.

Only after we had a day in the pub of Ivo and Marie-Thérèse (HupHollandHup) did it get really good again!   That’s why we took it right away twenty km away in the Morvan,   near Kees, Gemma, Annelies and Marieke.

After about two weeks we dared to camp for a night. We liked this so much that we are now in a chambre d’hotes again with the nine porridges. Tomorrow we will continue our way to the coast and then on to Italy!
