The Honda Monkey has been around since 1961 but didn’t truly gain popularity until the 70’s. This unique moped has seen tremendous development over the years and remains popular today. The Honda Monkey was originally developed to serve as a ride in an amusement park in Tokyo and soon after became popular outside of the park. A new ‘roadworthy’ version was developed, which is still popular today.

From theme park to moped of choice 

The Honda Monkey derives its name from the way people position themselves. When people sit down on the moped it kind of makes them look like a monkey. Its compact design makes them lithe and agile. This is one of the reasons it remains among Hondas most popular four stroke mopeds.

Icon of the 1970s

The original Honda Monkey is an icon of the 1970s. A two-wheeler you can be seen on, and it still is exactly that! The Honda Monkey – which was conceived to fit in the boot of an American car in in 1960s – had a 50cc engine.

But also new in 2023

Despite being an icon in the 1970s, the Honda Monkey is poised to grab all the attention again in 2023.

The updated Monkey honors the original model with its high wings in chrome. The heat shield for the exhaust and high-mounted handlebars takes you back to 1970, but the Honda Monkey itself now looks even more playful.

Equipment includes an air-cooled 125cc engine, steel frame, 12-inch wheels, five-speed gearbox and much more! For 2023, the Monkey will be available in the new color Pearl Shining Black, Pearl Nebula Red, and Banana Yellow. Besides, the classic tartan seat cover and stylish tank fillings from the late 1960s are certainly not missing.

Honda Monkey 125cc

The original minibike has had a makeover before 2019, which means it now features an air-cooled 125cc engine rated at 6.9 kW (almost 9.5 hp), an upside-down front fork, ABS with IMU and twin rear shock absorbers.

Besides, all the color and chrome, the Honda Monkey is solidly built thanks to a robust frame with an ABS with IMU control. It is also light and small, only 107 kg. The comfortable saddle sits at a height of 775 mm.
