The Four-Stroke Barn “A Barn Full of Passion”

We from Bikkel visit the Four-Stroke Barn of Kjell van Oostrum. A place where Honda enthusiasts like to stop by. They can admire the many Hondas that are there and discuss all the news in the field of Honda four-stroke mopeds. The barn started as a hobby in the small shed of Kjell’s parents. There Kjell repaired one or two mopeds, which he then immediately resold. Two mopeds became three and three became four. His parents’ barn soon became too small and Kjell had to look for a new space. That space was created in Nieuwerbrug in a farm barn. That’s where the name Viertaktschuur came into being. Because Kjell specializes in Honda four-stroke mopeds. Nowadays Kjell is closer to home on the Maarssenbroeksedijk in Utrecht.

Upon entering we are warmly welcomed. Coffee is offered before we start the tour. Our first impression is a gigantic chaos of parts in many shelves and racks full of parts. From the smallest springs and rings to complete engine. But the real Honda connoisseurs also immediately see the rare stuff. A Vietnamese Monkey on top of the toilet that has never been sold in the Netherlands. Rare anniversary petrol tanks in the showcases or on the wall.

The tour takes us upstairs, to the first floor. On this floor are all mopeds that Kjell currently has. There are 67 of them at the moment. From C310 mopeds to SS50 mopeds. Kjell has them all, in very good condition where nothing needs to be done to a frame where everything still has to be mounted. The rarest of his entire collection is the SS50 anniversary edition in very good condition. Even in such a good condition that you will hardly find it anywhere in that state.

Kjell’s customers also know each other through previous visits to the barn or other events. Like the Honda day that is held once a year. Even as a new customer, the question “And what kind of Honda do you drive?” is quickly asked. If you don’t drive anything yet, you will soon be tipped off to a project that Kjell has. The knowledge is enormous at the Viertaktschuur. Young guys who know how to assemble an engine . But also experienced Honda riders who have been riding for 40 years and know where the wear and tear is going to be. Help is always there in the barn.
The Four-Stroke Barn is a place where you as a Honda enthusiast should definitely visit once, but also if you are not sure to do so. It is initially a place where you go when you need parts, have problems with your Honda and where there is always a cup of coffee ready.
