Did you know that Honda has supplied some super nice special paint tanks and that these are sometimes for sale at the fourstrokebarn .
In 1981 there are about 900 unsold Honda SS50 mopeds in the warehouse of Honda Netherlands. This is of course a disaster for every company because unsold stock makes every company unhappy and so does Honda Netherlands.
There was a lot of searching for a way to boost sales again. Whoever came up with the brilliant idea to have the tanks repainted does not say the history, but it was decided to disassemble all the tanks and have them repainted. This was intended to give the impression that a new model was coming onto the market. The painting was outsourced to GI. Paints in Oud-Beijerland.
There they were instructed to provide all tanks with a beautiful new look. This resulted in tanks as shown on this flyer. brought’.
In addition to these special paint tanks, there were also some copies of the American flag. This was a study for a new variant of which only a few were made. We do not find these tanks anywhere in the existing leaflets.
Some specimens even received the American flag, as a study for a ‘fifth variant’. There have only been a few, which is why we do not see them in the leaflets. The special paint tanks go through life as ‘anniversary tanks’ but in fact it has nothing to do with an anniversary but more with disappointing sales figures. This action did have the necessary effect because sales increased at a rapid pace and the Special paint or Jubilee tanks are very popular.
Just take a look at the site what tanks we currently have but you can not find the tank you are looking for mail or call because the stock changes almost continuously.
