Disassembling shock absorbers – a customer’s tip

You just have to think about it !!!!

disassembling shock absorbers
The other day a customer was in our barn taking apart a shock absorber. it wanted to replace the buses but didn’t know how to disassemble them. We do it very regularly so the job was done in no time. Another customer – the owner of a super nice Honda C310 – told me that for a few euros he had made something himself with which, without the help of others, he could neatly disassemble his shock absorbers himself. On the next visit he had his “tool” with him. A “tool” consisting of two threaded ends, an old table leg (purchased from a thrift store and two small pieces of corner line. For the amount of less than 5 euros, he was ready to take apart the shock absorbers on his own without extra damage.

Of course our thanks to this customer because he gave permission to share his idea with all enthusiasts via our site.
Shock absorbers 0299
The table leg sawn off to length. In the middle of the top plate the hole is made slightly larger so that the head of the shock absorber can pass through exactly.
Shock absorbers 0323
Make 2 holes on the side of the top plate so that the threaded ends can pass through.

Make 2 holes in the pieces of corner line. 1 hole where the threaded end can pass through and a hole where a bolt for the lower hole of the shock absorber.

Shock absorbers 0231
Put a suitable bolt through the base point of the shock absorber, slide the “table leg” over the top and slide the threaded ends through the holes.
Now only the nuts of the threaded ends “turn in” and the head of the shock absorber comes out through the designated hole. Unscrewing the head is of course super easy afterwards. The great thing about this device is that you can also use it when mounting so assembling the shock absorber goes without anything damaging and you do not have to wait until your wife has time to help you.

Of course, no one is going to take apart their shock absorbers for fun so if you need parts take a look around on our website where you will find both complete shock absorbers and the necessary parts

Good luck with this job and if you need loose parts both new and used look further on our site.
